Tay Jing Zhi

Singapore University of Technology and Design

JingZhi Tay is a PhD student in Architecture and Sustainable Design pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) since 2021. His research interest is in application of optimization models for design space exploration, combining disciplines from machine learning and visualization techniques. His current research is in developing a simulation based urban design process, augmented by automated computational search based on genetic algorithms with a decision-making framework fine-tuned for urban design in Singapore.

As a researcher in 2020, JingZhi has researched and published multiple works revolving around the central idea of using optimisation and computational models to improve design processes. The research includes optimizing dormitory schedules to reduce the risk of over congestion in worker’s dormitories during Covid-19 and developing an optimizable furniture system based on the 9R circular economy framework.

JingZhi has experience in organizing and running computational design workshops at SUTD (2021-2022) and experience as a teaching assistant for a 6-week computational thinking and design course for undergraduate students (2021).
